This historic property began as a schoolhouse built in 1920. Over the years, it was expanded and transformed into a residence, hosting many seekers. Located adjacent to the Krishnamurti Center, it became a guest home for devotees seeking to deepen their connections to spirit. At one time, the entire neighborhood resembled a commune, drawing people from far and wide to listen to Krishnamurti's lectures and teachings.

In the 1950s, a woman named Billie Barry purchased the property and made significant expansions. A professional dancer, she built an incredible studio where she could train and perform. Barry also added a bedroom and bathroom to the main house and constructed a horse stable, which later became a guest house known as "the cabin." Much of the property's spirit can be attributed to Ms. Barry, a vibrant personality who was both an actress and a dancer. She was a fiercely independent woman who raised thoroughbred horses and had seemingly telepathic connections with animals. She shared her home with her favorite horse, Dollie.

After several other owners over the years, we purchased the property and completed a loving restoration and renovation of the grounds and structures. We lived in the studio while renovating the main house, experiencing many moments of connection with the history and energy of this place in Ojai’s east end. We fell in love with the property—its peaceful character and charm, the wildlife visitors, and its colorful history. Rather than feeling like “owners” of the property, we see ourselves as stewards, here to enjoy, share, and care for this special place, hoping to contribute to its legacy for future generations.

Main House: 2000 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. AC, Kitchen. One King room, and three queen rooms. Sleeps 8-10.

Billie Barry Studio: 1500 sq ft of open usable practice space. Newly renovated kitchen + bathroom. Sleeps 5 in sleeping bags. AC.

Bunk Cabin: 500 sq ft. Includes a bathroom with shower and outdoor kitchen. Sleeps 4. AC.

Coop: 100 sq ft. Includes outdoor bathroom + shower, AC. Queen Bed. Sleeps 2.

Dollie’s Airstream: 200 sq ft, queen bed, bath + shower, kitchen, sitting area. Sleeps 2.
