When we first drove to the top of a hidden road above the Ojai valley to see the listing, all we could say was “Wow!”

The view was just “Wow!” The house, not so much.

A stucco box with no style, a dated interior and no real connection to the outdoors. The landscape was essentially tan bark and some collapsing wooden planter boxes on a hillside. But as they say, it had “potential” and “good bones”. In this case it was really true. When we looked up behind the house to the top of the hill and next to a beautiful oak, we saw an amazing buck with a full rack staring back at us and taking it all in… “wow!”

We made an offer that became the deal and so began the journey. Over the next two years we added a swimming pool, transformed the landscape, added a wrap around ipe deck, an outdoor fireplace, new glass windows and doors, and completely new kitchen, bathrooms and all interior surfaces. We removed the exterior stucco and added fire resistant double batten and board siding. From head to toe, we worked within the existing structure, but all was transformed!

The final result is a beautiful and thoughtfully curated Japandi inspired Ojai mountain retreat, featuring white oak cabinetry and flooring, Italian gray marble countertops and fireplace, moroccan zellige tiles, and portal round windows looking out to valley views beyond the potted olive trees. The house and landscape now match the “wow” of the view, and the feeling is “ahhhh"!”

In December 2025, The View House was sold in an off market deal.

We are very proud to have shepherded this property from its previous owners to the next and hope that it provides many years of joy and inspiration for the owners, their guests and that majestic buck that calls this mountainside home.
